I am a visual artist and creative practitioner whose work explores relationships between people and places.

I am interested the relationships people have with everyday discarded materials. How these materials begin with a purpose and then pass through human hands, used and then becoming evidence of who and where we are at a singular point in history. She spends time in cities and towns collecting of the mundane archaeology.

In my street photography practice, I collect stories through single frames. These images are set and offers a reference point for a place in time. Much like collage, photography uses the content - buildings, landscapes people, objects, to glue a moment at a singular point, knowing that a microsecond later the moment is gone. Working with street and found materials feels like another capture of who we are at one collective point.

The materials feel rich, playful and authentic in my hands.

My material practice allows for a different interpretation that 2d images do not. They are imagined frames and stories of the shapes, materials and evidence of life.

Bringing the materials into a clean calm space is important. The environment then values what they can become. They become purposeful objects, representative of the hands that have travelled through. Connecting them to each other and assembling them onto a new surface feels like a resurrection. I also feel like there is a responsibility to keep the materials -the evidence - safe so that the stories they tell are not lost of discarded.

I am a committed community artist, who shares her work and practice in settings that celebrate diverse cultures and grassroots values. She is passionate about creating work and opportunities to evoke conversations about belonging to a place. Recent work is informing the design of a new gallery space in Weymouth, Dorset.

A long term, more immersive, piece of work is underway – ‘Discarded and Caught’- a photography and collage investigation into materials caught by nature.
